Good morning, Poughkeepsie!

In today’s Poughkeepsie Weekly:

  • A Vision for the Kmart Site in the Town of Poughkeepsie 🌅

  • Grants For Youth Programs in the City of Poughkeepsie

  • This Weekend, Marist Basketball, and The Poughkeepsie Farm Project 🧑‍🌾

Let’s get to it.

THE DIGEST

Town Supervisor Rebecca Edwards announced that the Town of Poughkeepsie has received a NYS Brownfield Opportunity Area Grant of $252,000 to develop a community plan for the former VandeWater landfill at Route 44 and Tucker and Burnett Drives, also known as the Kmart site. Learn more.

Last week, we asked if you have resolutions - 43% of respondents said yes! We also asked about past successful resolutions, here are some of the responses:

🦷 Flossing daily | 🍎 Eating fruit daily | 🤸 Working on flexibility weekly

We noticed that most successful resolutions consisted of small, measurable, and consistent habits. As one subscriber put it: "I can't recall any specifically, but each year, I make three achievable and measurable ones with which I recall having regular success.”

Mayor Yvonne Flowers has announced over $300,000 in funding through the Youth Activities & Opportunities Grant Program, offering up to $15,000 per awardee to support programs like sports, arts, and workforce development. Applications are open until February 10, with details available on the city’s Youth Services Division webpage.

We’re big basketball fans here at the PW, and we want to give a special shout-out to Marist Basketball! We highly recommend catching a game if you’re looking for a fun way to get out of the house this winter. It’s a great activity for all ages, well-attended by the community, and an affordable way to enjoy some midweek excitement! Women’s Basketball Schedule. Men’s Basketball Schedule.
