It’s everyone’s favorite time of year again — the suspiciously colored snow is piled up to your knees, the roads might have a bit of black ice, and every time you step outside, you start to wish you’d worn an extra coat. I’d call that pretty perfect timing for the most romantic holiday of the year. That’s right, what better way to beat the cold than by spending it cozied up with your loved ones? Luckily, our lovely Poughkeepsie has no shortage of romantic — and more importantly, warm — places to spend your Valentine’s Day.

Let’s start with the classic — Italian. If you’re feeling ready to bring out your inner Lady and the Tramp, Savona’s Trattoria & Bar might be just the place to go. Located right next to the picturesque Vassar College on Collegeview Avenue, Savona’s boasts warm lighting, a cozy atmosphere, and, of course, delicious food! Whether it’s for a Galentine’s Day brunch with Savona’s special menu on the 15th, or a proper romantic Valentine’s meal with your love, you’ll find great food at great prices, with a plate costing about $20 – $30 per person.

Is Savona's all booked up, or not your speed? Try heading over to the Mill House Brewing Company on the aptly named Mill Street. True to its name, at the Mill House Brewing Company, you can enjoy the craft beer, special Valentine’s Day cocktails, and, naturally, a wonderful Valentine’s Day menu featuring a ‘fig and pig’ pizza that I’ve personally got my eye on. It’s a bit pricier than Savona’s — with a plate landing you around $30 — $50, but believe me, it’s worth every dollar. If the Brewery sounds like your speed, you might as well also check out the Ridge by Mill House over in Highland — a sister location that's another great option for folks looking for a romantic atmosphere.

If you’re craving some delicious pasta, sandwiches, or burgers, I’d be remiss not to tell you to pay a visit to Farmers and Chefs on Albany Street. Right on the riverside, Farmers and Chefs boasts locally grown produce — including some they grow themselves. Farmers and Chefs is a more casual setting, where you can enjoy a great plate for around $30 – $50 per person and savor the fresh greens that make the restaurant first-rate.

Now, if you’re looking to take advantage of Poughkeepsie’s beautiful location on the Hudson, you might want to pay a visit to Shadows on the Hudson, located on Rinaldi Boulevard. For a special Valentine’s Day treat, Shadows on the Hudson offers a special menu that costs approximately $90 per person and includes an appetizer, entrée, and dessert. From the lobster bisque to the roasted mushroom gnocchi, you’ll have your pick of great food, and I’m sure the riverfront views of the Mid-Hudson Bridge will be nearly just as divine.

` Whether you find yourself enjoying Savona’s pizza or a nice craft beer, remember to stay warm this weekend, and most importantly, enjoy the holiday with your loved ones.
