THE DIGEST
Democrats Flip Dutchess County Legislature
Democrats scored major gains on Nov. 4, winning 15 of 25 seats and flipping the Dutchess County Legislature for the first time since 2008. They also held the County Comptroller seat and won the County Court Judge race, contributing to a strong countywide showing.
Democratic leaders credited the victory to an unprecedented field effort, 58,000 doors knocked and 55,000 phone calls, and to strong early-voting turnout that broke heavily in their favor. Minority Leader Yvette Valdés Smith called it a “historic win” built on sustained community outreach.
Republican leaders said national political frustrations, particularly over the federal shutdown, influenced local results and created a challenging environment for their candidates.
County Executive Sue Serino emphasized that county government will continue operating collaboratively despite the partisan shift. Democratic Chair Michael Dupree said the new majority reflects voters’ desire for “a more compassionate, team-focused Legislature.” Full results here.
Marist vs. Vassar 🏀
