The Poughkeepsie Public Library District has a local history blog, and we found this to be an inspiring story to share! On November 1, 1958, Eleanor Roosevelt, Jackie Robinson, and the Dutchess County NAACP organized a concert at Poughkeepsie High School to support school desegregation efforts. The event brought over 1,500 people together and raised $3,500 for the cause. It’s a reminder that local actions can drive national change — and that history still shapes our future. Read more.
