🏳️🌈 Pride in the Sky - Walkway Over the Hudson
The Friends of the Walkway nonprofit organization, in partnership with Big Gay Hudson Valley, will host Pride In The Sky, the first-ever nighttime LGBTQ+ pride celebration on Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park on Friday, May 17 from 6-10 p.m. Rain date is Saturday, May 18.
Pride In The Sky includes a DJ-driven dance party at the Walkway’s Center Overlook, along with featured hosts from the LGBTQ+ community and illuminated performers and entertainers. The Walkway’s brand new LED lighting system will have portions of the pathway illuminated in a wash of rainbow light for the celebration. This event is free to attend and open to all.
At 7:30 p.m., volunteer flag marshals will carry a 15-foot-wide, 500-foot-long portion of a rainbow flag specially created for the symbol’s 20th anniversary in 1998 across the span. The original 1.5-mile-long flag was made by Gilbert Baker, with the support of SPI Marketing, and stretched from one end of Key West, Florida to the opposite side of the Island to mark the anniversary. Featuring the original eight-color stripes, this section of that flag will be carried from the Dutchess County side of the Walkway across to Ulster County by a group of more than 100 volunteer flag marshals.
Arrive early from 6-8 p.m. and meet with representatives from more than 30 community organizations, with vendors will be stationed on both sides of the Walkway. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. See who will be there! Admission is free. For complete information and to register, visit BigGayHudsonValley.com
