Poughkeepsie Residents Fight to Keep Adult Homeless Shelter Out of Neighborhood

The county has proposed a homeless shelter on Oakley Street in Poughkeepsie and has received grants from the state. Proponents of the plan who live near Oakley Street argue that housing the homeless population all in one place is not a plan for success. They would rather see each municipality in the county shelter a portion of the homeless population. Mayor Flowers proposed a site north of the city, but the county said it might be too late to consider another plan due to the grant money awarded for Oakley Street. Click here.

Share Input on Future Use of Schatz Property in Poughkeepsie 🏭️

Dutchess County is seeking community input regarding the development of the former Schatz Federal Bearings Company property, a 20-acre site on Fairview Avenue in the Town of Poughkeepsie that spans into the City of Poughkeepsie. The County and its partners have established a “Revitalize Schatz” website, revitalizeschatz.com, where residents can learn about and take a survey regarding potential projects, including the housing, commercial, and amenity options for the site.
