The Town of Poughkeepsie has made adding accessory dwelling units (ADUs) easier. “Last Wednesday, the Town Board heard from a family who hope to convert their detached garage so their elderly parents can live nearby. The town has not previously allowed this, but last Wednesday, the board voted to change our town code to make it easier for residents to create more types of ‘accessory apartments’ in homes and detached buildings.”

Next month, the Town Board will vote on limiting short-term rentals to ensure that units focus on long-term rental needs.
