THE DIGEST

The City of Poughkeepsie is proposing a Business Improvement District with support from the Mayor and Common Council.  Read more. Visit www.dtpk.org to learn more and residents can provide feedback by emailing: [email protected]

“In an effort to further enhance the downtown corridor of the city and fortify the business climate along Main Street, the Mayor and Common Council supported a resolution authorizing the establishment of a Business Improvement District (BID). Funded by a special assessment on property owners within the district boundaries, a BID establishes a geographic area where local property owners, business tenants, and residents directly oversee key parts of the maintenance, improvement, and promotion of the commercial district.”

🏙️ City of Poughkeepsie Common Council Passes Good Cause Eviction.

  • Prohibits eviction without good cause defined as “failure to pay rent, substantial lease violations, committing or permitting a nuisance, and apartment use for illegal purposes.”

  • Landlords with one rental unit are exempt.

  • Buildings constructed after 2009 and owner-occupied buildings with 10 or fewer units are exempt.

Community Organization Spotlight - Upstate Pups of NY 🐶

🐕️ Upstate Pups of NY is a newly established non-profit founded by a local family with a long history of fostering dogs. Their website shares the story of Sophia, their last foster dog from another agency:

“Our last foster, Sophia, came to us with only a few days left before crossing the rainbow bridge. Sophia's experience solidified it for us. We decided to start our own 501(c)(3), Upstate Pups, to rescue dogs from NYC and provide them with a loving upstate life. Having rescued and fostered a dozen dogs from various rescues, we've learned how to ensure the best experience for our furry friends and their forever families. Thanks for being part of our journey!”
