Democratic voters cast their ballots Tuesday in two closely watched primary contests for the New York State Legislature.
In the race for New York State Assembly District 106, incumbent Assemblymember Didi Barrett secured a victory over challenger Samuel Hodge. Barrett received 72.76% of the vote, while Hodge earned 26.85%.

The other contest took place in State Senate District 39, where three candidates sought the Democratic nomination for a seat currently held by Republican State Senator Rob Rolison. Lisa Kaul won the nomination with 61.58% of the vote, defeating Evan Menist, who received 30.18%, and Gay Lee, who received 7.31%.
The results set the stage for November's general election. Barrett will advance as the Democratic nominee in Assembly District 106, while Kaul will move on to challenge Rolison in the race for State Senate District 39.
