Memorial Day Weekend

Don’t forget that this weekend is more than just a barbecue. ☀️ Take some time this weekend to honor the sacrifices of the armed forces. Here are four ideas in Poughkeepsie:

  • Sunday, May 26th at 3 PM. There will be a ceremony at the Solider and Sailor Foundation on South Avenue, hosted by the City of Poughkeepsie and American Legion Lafayette Post #37.

  • Sunday, May 26th at 7:30 PM. The American Legion Post 739 organizes and presents monthly flag-changing ceremonies on the Walkway bridge to honor our region’s veterans and their service to our country.

  • Monday, May 27th at 10 AM. Town of Poughkeepsie Supervisor Rebecca Edwards will host a ceremony to lay wreaths and flowers at the refurbished memorial at 626 Dutchess Turnpike. They will walk or drive afterward to the Dutchess County Memorial Day service, at the corner of Raymond and Main.

  • Monday, May 27th at 11 AM. Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino and the Dutchess County Division of Veterans Services are hosting a ceremony at the Dutchess County War Memorial at the corner of Raymond Avenue and Main Street.

Help Elizabeth Officialize the Jehova Jireh Food Pantry

Meet Elizabeth, an exceptional community member dedicated to feeding over 100 families in the Town of Poughkeepsie. Originally from Puerto Rico, Elizabeth grew up here and recalls the strong sense of community during hurricane season in Puerto Rico, where neighbors came together to rebuild and support each other. This resilience and teamwork left a lasting impression on her.

Reflecting on her experiences in the United States, she remembers a charitable America with close-knit communities. "I believe that one person can make a difference," she says.

For a little over six months, Elizabeth has felt compelled to support her community by starting a small, impromptu food pantry. It has steadily grown and now serves many families in need.

Elizabeth needs your help to make this initiative official and find a permanent solution for the food pantry that so many in our community rely on. Please consider donating to the GoFundMe campaign.
