Town of Poughkeepsie Takes a Stand Against Central Hudson's Proposed Rate Hike
⚡️ In a resolute stance against Central Hudson's proposed electric and gas delivery rate hikes, the Town of Poughkeepsie Town Board unanimously voted to pass a resolution to reject the increases. The proposed hikes, which would have seen an estimated surge of 31.9% in electric delivery rates and 29.2% or 19% increase on the total gas bill, met firm opposition from local officials. Click here.

🌎️ As we celebrate Earth Month, it's inspiring to witness the collective efforts of our community to keep Poughkeepsie clean and green. But did you know that not too long ago, tossing trash wherever convenient was the norm? It wasn't until the mid-1800s that people began discreetly disposing of trash in specially dug pits. However, a darker chapter unfolded in the 1940s in Dutchess County, where some farms became unwitting dumping grounds.
In Pleasant Valley, for instance, a farmer once permitted residents to dispose of their trash down a wooded hillside for a small fee. It's a stark reminder of how attitudes towards waste disposal have evolved. Yet, despite progress, some individuals seem unaware of the importance of responsible waste management.
Let's ensure that the lessons of the past guide us toward a future where every action, big or small, contributes to preserving the beauty and health of our environment.
